Hi.

I'm Matt, a Marvel-lover & customizer from Vancouver, Canada.

Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver MCU - Ver. 3)

Hello everyone. Welcome to 2020. To kick things off this year, I figured id share my last figured made in 2019. I made this while trying to hide my secret Santa figure I was making for my friend from him. This figure was used as a cover so my buddy didn’t know I was making Longshot for him. Here is my third (and final) attempt at MCU Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver.

The last time I made Pietro, I wasn’t super happy with how small his frame was. I had to use parts that I had accessible, and none of those parts really scaled well with the heavy hitters of the MCU (Cap, Thor, Iron Man). Since the Power Rangers Lightning Collection have come out, I’ve wanted to try my hand utilizing parts of these figures for customs, and Quicksilver seemed like the best opportunity to try it.

He was made using a torso and shoulders from a White Power Ranger, arms from Killmonger, legs from Grandmaster, feet from some old Batman figure (heavily modified) and a shrunken Hot Toys head cast that was originally cast by Casting Cave, but my good buddy Opticon Customs hooked me up with this copy since Casting Cave no longer stocks it.

The sculpting on this guy is pretty minimal. I filled peg holes, did some detailing on the feet, sculpted the neckline of the shirt (I thickened the neck too) and sculpted the bottom of his shirt. I also added some texturing to the back of the legs using some netting from a bag of oranges haha.

When it came to paint, I was slightly concerned about utilizing the new Power Rangers torso in fear of paint rub. These Lightning Collection figures do not have a waist swivel, but instead have a diaphragm/ab crunch combo. I like the fluidity it provides in posing, but I was worried his movement of the diaphragm joint could potentially scratch the paint.

To combat this, I used Rit Fabric Dye to dye the plastic from white to black. This way, if there was paint rub, at least it would be black and not white. While I am not 100% happy with the paint job on the face, it works fine for now. I may however revisit this somewhere down the road. It’s just the skin tone that bothers me, the actual face painting (eyes, lips, hair, brows) don’t really bug me.

Overall, im pretty happy with how Pietro turned out for my third attempt. Happy to have a definitive version in my collection, and also stoked I got to work with a Power Ranger base figure finally. It was a good experience and I will be utilizing these base figures again somewhere down the road.  Thank you all for stopping by and checking out my work. Cant wait to share what I have coming up in 2020.
