Hi.

I'm Matt, a Marvel-lover & customizer from Vancouver, Canada.

Psylocke (Jim Lee Ver 3)

Psylocke (Jim Lee Ver 3)

Hey everyone, back with another reveal, this time, my 3rd and most likely final commission of 2019. Also my 3rd and final attempt of this version of the character. Check out my deluxe edition of 90’s Psylocke (complete with all the bells and whistles).

I made Betsy for a customer who just wasn’t satisfied with the offering Hasbro gave us (can’t say I blame him there, lots left to be desired). She is on a curvier body, has double jointed elbows, a modified ball hinge neck, loads of alt hands, effects pieces, swords (regular and psy) and even a shoulder harness/belt. Her sash is also fully posable.

Psylocke was made using a mix of different parts. The customer wanted me to use the Scream/Capt Marvel body for the curviness of it, but I was hesitant because I wanted to have a ball hinge neck and that body is old and pre-ball hinge neck. I decided to give her a neck transplant by cutting her neck off and swapping it with one from a Kitty Pryde figure. I cemented it into place using apoxie sculpt.

As for the legs, I didn’t love how thick they were. I get wanting her to have some substance but it was too far in my opinion.  I opted to swap Scream’s legs for a mixture of Kitty Pryde and Spider Bitch to make them a bit skinnier, then I just fattened them up a bit to match Scream’s upper thighs. Her head features a swappable hair piece that connects to both a regular and an angry/transsexual head. lol. Her hair was a cast of the old SDCC Comic-Con Uncanny X-Force boxset Psylocke, her regular head from Silk and angry head from some old Johnny Storm figure.

As for accessories, she comes with a ton. 3 sets of hands (fists, open, weapon holding), 2 sets of swords (chromed regular and psy powered up), 2 psyknife effects (large and small), a magnetic psy butterfly that attaches to the head with a magnet buried in her forehead and a fully posable sash made with Procreate with a wire in the middle. This allows the sash to hold its shape when you bend it. My worry was that the paint would break down over time and repetitive use. I decided to try and mix in some liquid vinyl and see how it turned out. Thankfully it turned out well and the sash shows no stress signs on the paint even after some heavy use.

As for the paint job, I really tried to up my game with her face paint. I always look at Christina Cruz’s custom female characters and say to myself “how does Christina make these figures look so attractive”. I know a lot of it is in the clean lines but makeup goes a long way, and since I have no experience in that category, I used her figures as a reference. This is probably the “prettiest” face I’ve painted.

For my 3rd and final attempt I feel I went all out with this figure (mostly because that’s what the customer wanted, HA!) I think this final version of her did justice and to be honest, if the customer would have backed out, id have been very happy to add her to my self. Thankfully, my customer was VERY patient as this took me a bit longer to complete than I wanted it to.

Up next, another figure for someone else. Haha. I am moving in the next few months so keeping most my focus for the next few months on figures for others (1 less thing to move, ya know?) My custom DC Cyborg (built on a Marvel Legends body) is up next, stick around!
